Find out more about the role

Nice video but what's the point ?

We are partnering with one of the most analytical and technically advanced trading firms in the world who are expanding into medium frequency commodities.

So what ?

Ah, a sceptic. Imagine being able to trade on any commodity market globally and the mandate to find correlation and alpha across product whether energy, ags or metals from Shanghai to Chicago. Imagine being able to architect and build the framework to identify and capture those opportunities within a firm that has technical innovation and data led investment engrained in it's DNA from inception. Imagine being given the time, resource and investment to make that vision a reality.

OK, you got me, do they have anything in place ?

This is not entirely greenfield as they already trade very profitable intraday strategies across commodity markets so the clearing and execution is in place. They would like to now deploy some of their substantial capital to capitalise on medium frequency opportunities. So, there are parts of this business, particularly around data, that will be building from scratch which means there are no legacy platforms or structures to inhibit the flow of information. Simply put, they invest in the people, technology, data and resources to make things happen.

What and how are they looking to trade ?

They are looking to increase their presences in exchange traded energy, metals and agricultural markets. The strategies they employ across the firm are model driven. This means coupling rigorous quantitative research with deep domain knowledge to understand the nuances of the market whether European power markets or the drivers of iron ore demand in China. The phrase quantamental best sums up. Strategies should be grounded in quantitative logic with human insight to size or override based on discretionary factors.

What roles specifically are available ?

This is essentially a start-up but within the belly of a hugely successful quantitative trading firm. Specifically, they are looking to add commodity domain expertise in research, data engineering and trading. The technical environment is Python for research (they already have a world class execution platform utilising FPGA and C++).  Everybody can code so even traders need to be able to do their own analysis in Python (although doesn't have to be developer quality).

I'm not actively looking but I am curious - how can I find out more ?

Understood - we're headhunters so it's our job to find the relevant talent (you), present the opportunity and provide the detail you need to determine if this opportunity is as good as it sounds. You can get in touch via email at s.grainger@gslsearch.com or use the link below to book time into my diary for a confidential chat.
