HFT Quant Trader - US Equities
High Frequency Equities Quant trader – NY or London
Who are you?
You trade high frequency liquidity provision and taking strategies on US single stocks, index futures and maybe some ETFs. You love working in HFT because it’s a blend of game theory, probability, statistics and computer science. It’s also about detail. It’s also about understanding latency, the detailed microstructure and order type of every exchange.
It’s highly competitive and that’s why you are working in one of the few firms that have the infrastructure and means to be able to trade the type of strategies you want.
The only issue is you’re stuck. You joined your current team a few years ago and you’ve learned everything you can. The head of the team is not going anywhere soon so you’ve hit a bit of a ceiling both in progression and learning.
Yep, that does sound like me. So what?
You know who the competition is. You’re right. It’s one of them. To be precise it’s a team within one of your competitors that already trades equities and futures and would like somebody to focus on US equities. The team (10 quants and devs) is split equally between NY and London so they are flexible on location although as your focus is US equities you probably will be in the US. We can’t reveal too many details on here but it really is a top performing team.
Why should I leave my current seat?
We’ve already discussed that. You’ve hit a ceiling right? You’re giving more than receiving from your colleagues. You want a new challenge and this opportunity provides the right platform, team and market access to expand your abilities and PNL capability.
What skills / experience do I need then?
Strong modelling skills using advanced statistical and/or machine learning learning
Experience with game theory and probability
Experience developing and implementing high frequency strategies on US equity markets
Solid programming in C++/Python
I have a notice / non-compete period?
